This month we are catching up with our PR & Compliance Officer, Lucy Salih, so she can fill us on on what she gets up to here at Evolve. Lucy is the one to contact with any Compliance or GDPR queries, as well as any sponsorship or partnership information.
Hey, Lucy! So when did you start at Evolve?
I started back in April 2014, after working in PR for around 10 years.
Have you always wanted to work in PR?
Interestingly, no I didn’t! When I went to Uni, I initally wanted to do Fashion Buying. A friend at Uni asked if I wanted to do PR for Acuascutum, and I jumped at the chance. That was where my journey began! I built up experience and some contacts, and applied for my first role at Burberry, and got it!
What’s your average day like?
Everyday is different at Evolve… at the minute my role is focused heavily on GDPR! You might have seen it being thrown around at the minute, or privacy policy emails in your inbox. I play a heavy role in Employee and Worker compliance, and get stuck in with inductions and training too.
I also work closely with our charities, especially Adopt A School. I take trips into the schools and meet the kiddies to teach them about where food comes from and how to cook it. It’s great fun and always so rewarding, as they always have a great time and really enjoy it.
What do you get up to outside of work?
I’m super boring! Around taking care of the kids, I try to stay fit and healthy. I might go for a run or two, especially now as I’m training for a Half Marathon! I love trying new places to eat and drink, so if you have a recommendation, always let me know! I’m always on the look out for the next project at home. Redecorating, different interiors, and stuff like that. I like getting my hands dirty and getting stuck in! I love hosting, cooking, and baking, too.
What does the future hold for you?
I’m just starting my CIPD course, which can open up so many doors for me at Evolve. It really works well with all my compliance work, and is also HR focused, so means I have a broad knowledge of the whole business and the way it works. With compliance and GDPR in the spotlight, I’m going to be busier than ever making sure Evolve are fully compliant and we are keeping candidate and client data safe and secure.
